Mangaves are new hybrid plants that are just starting to gain interest in the market for their hardiness, faster growth rate, and many unique forms. Mangaves are a cross of two different genera, Manfreda and Agave, to try and get a combination with the best of both parents. 'Silver Fox' has silvery-blue leaves with a thick, waxy coating, giving it the appearance of glowing white. Purple spotting is visible under the coating, and is more pronounced with more sunlight exposure. Mature size on this selection is about 1 foot tall and 1 1/2' wide. Plants will bloom after a few years and will send up tall spikes of lavender and white flowers much like an Agave. Flowering occurs in the late spring to early summer. Individual heads will die after flowering much like Agaves, but plants will offset at the same time to keep actively growing. Plants will do best in full sun to at least half day sun to show off their spots. These plants will do well in containers or in the ground.
