This deciduous shrub creates a low growing dense groundcover which spreads by underground stems. The finely dissected fern-like leaves are 2 to 5 inches long with numerous pairs of tiny leaflets. In areas where frost is common it will freeze to the ground, recovering rapidly in the spring to reach a height of 1 to 3 feet. The ivory puffball flowers are about ½ inch in diameter, appearing from summer to fall. Fern Acacia is quite xeric and needs good drainage. It will grow in full sun or part shade.
