Scrub Oak is an evergreen shrub or small tree with a dense, mounding habit. Native from California into west Texas at elevations from 2500 to 6000 feet, Scrub Oak will generally reach a mature size of about 8 feet tall by 10-12 feet wide, although specimens 20 or more feet high can be found in areas with deep soil and regular water. The oval leaves are small, leathery, and gray-blue with sharply toothed margins. Small, slender acorns ripen in the summer, providing food for wildlife. Plant in full sun to part shade and in well-drained soils.
