Arizona native mesquite develops into a large deciduous shrub or medium-sized tree, growing to about 30' tall and wide. Its dense canopy of ferny green foliage provides welcome shade in the summer months. It does have small, sharp thorns so be cautious about site selection. This tree is native from southern Arizona into western Texas and south into Mexico, and is common at elevations below 5,000 feet. This extremely tough tree is tolerant of drought, full sun, reflected heat, and is cold-hardy to 0° F.
