Acacia farnesiana (Sweet Acacia)

Acacia farnesiana
Huisache, Texas Huisache, Sweet Acacia, Perfume Acacia, Mealy Acacia, Mealy Wattle, Cassie, Vachellia farnesiana, Acacia minuta, Acacia smallii, Mimosa farnesiana, Pithecellobium minutum, Vachellia densiflora

Each spring, Sweet Acacia perfumes the air with masses of fragrant yellow-orange puffball flowers. This thorny tree is extremely tough, and will grow in almost any situation, from hot parking lots to turf areas. It requires some pruning to develop an attractive vase-shaped form. Avoid planting this tree around swimming pools, as its plump, dark brown seed pods are quite messy.
