Agave macroacantha (Black Spine Agave)

Agave macroacantha
Black-Spined Agave, Large-Thorned Agave, Agave macroacantha var. latifolia

This small clumping agave has stunning narrow powder-blue leaves tipped with an impressive black-brown spine. The unbranched flower stalk has green flowers and may also produce bulbils. In milder climates this plant grows well in full sun, but in the low deserts some afternoon shade is best. It is native to the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla.
