Inconspicuous flowers are followed by small, rounded reddish-brown cones. It performs well in hot interior climates, and is a favorite windbreak for high desert grasslands. It also is useful in erosion control. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil, and provide deep, infrequent summer irrigations.
