Dalbergia sissoo (Rosewood, Sissoo Tree)

Dalbergia sissoo
Rosewood, Sissoo Tree

This evergreen to semi-evergreen tree has glossy green compound leaves consisting of 3 to 5 leaflets. A riparian native of India and Pakistan, this legume is widely grown throughout the Pacific Rim for timber and fuel. Rosewood is a very fast growing, soft-wooded tree, especially if provided ample irrigation. It has proven quite drought tolerant in the low deserts. The wide spreading root system is useful for erosion control, but be careful placing it near walls and foundations. Plant in full sun.
