White Gaura

Native to Texas and Mexico, this airy herbaceous perennial forms a basal rosette of green foliage from which arching branched flower stalks emerge. Sprays of small white orchid-like blooms cover the stems in low deserts during the spring and fall, while summer flowers are common in colder regions. Plant in full sun in middle to high deserts, but provide some afternoon protection in the hottest zones. It thrives in garden soil, and prefers moderate to ample irrigation. If water is available, it can reseed. It is susceptible to flea beetles.
