Leucaena retusa (Golden Leadball Tree)

Leucaena retusa
Goldenball Leadtree, Littleleaf Leadtree, Little Leucaena, Lemonball, Wahoo Tree

This slow-growing, deciduous tree is native to dry rocky slopes in west Texas and Chihuahua, Mexico, from 1500 to 5500 feet. Fine textured, bright green, lacy compound leaves contrast well with the smooth gray bark and branches. The showy yellow-gold puffball flowers are 1 1/2" in diameter, occuring after spring-summer rains. Plant in full sun and well-drained soils.
