Showy Penstemon, Showy Beardtongue, Royal Penstemon, Royal Beardtongue

Native to the chaparral zones of California and Baja California at elevations below 6000 feet, this perennial grows in dry washes and recently disturbed areas. The large shiny green leaves have coarsely toothed margins. Showy blue-purple flower spikes attract hummingbirds from April through June. Plant in full sun and provide excellent drainage. It reseeds readily.
