Sophora affinis (Eve’s Necklace)

Sophora affinis
Eve’s Necklace

This deciduous multi-trunked shrub or small tree grows in riparian areas from central Oklahoma to Louisiana. The glossy green compound leaves are fine-textured and have a ferny appearance. Pale pink and white wisteria-like flowers with creamy yellow centers are produced in loose racemes during the spring. The bean-like pods are constricted between the seeds to resemble a string of pearls, and it is sometimes called Eve’s necklace. Normal height is about 10 to 15 feet by 6 feet across. Plant in full sun to filtered sun and in well drained soils.
