Pistacia lentiscus (Mastic Tree)

Pistacia lentiscus
Chios Mastic, Lentisco, Lentisk, Mastic, Mastic Tree, Mastic Resin Plant

Tough, evergreen small tree or large shrub native to the Mediterranean region. Will grow 15-25 feet tall and wide at a slow to moderate rate. Separate male and female plants, males have red blooms in the spring, females have inconspicuous white flowers and produce small red to black berries in the fall that birds love. Will tolerate full sun, even in the low desert. Prefers good drainage, but will tolerate a wide range of soils. Cold hardy to about 15 degrees F.
