This large deciduous shrub or small tree is commonly found along riverbanks or where ample moisture is available. It occurs at elevations of 4500 to 9000 feet across most of North America, ranging from Alaska all the way down into northern Mexico. The leaves are long, narrow, and have silver hairs on the underside. The reddish twigs provide great winter color. Plant in full sun and provide ample moisture. Coyote willow is hardy to -30° F.
